Getting started in Paraswimming

Do you want to know more about getting started in para-swimming?

Or maybe you have your heart set on becoming a para-swimmer in England? Read on to find out how you can achieve your dream.

There are five key steps on the pathway to becoming a para- swimmer. Many of England’s top Paralympic swimmers will have taken these steps on their journey to the top of the sport.

  1. 1. Get in touch with LimbPower and let us help you with specific advice for you. The LimbPower Games and LimbPower Junior Games are a great entry point where you can join a have-a-go session in a safe environment.
  2. 2. Sign up for an assessment with Swim England qualified coaches at a Start Para-Swimming Centre.
  3. 3. Find a club to train and start competing with like-minded swimmers and para-swimmers.
  4. 4. Apply for classification to compete in regional, national and international. Your club will be able to help you with this.
  5. 5. Set yourself goals and work hard with your coach to reach them

Start Para-Swimming

Swim England has helped more than 30 existing para-swimming clubs to join the Start Para-swimming initiative throughout England. More clubs are looking to join the initiative throughout the year so there may be one opening close to you.
