LimbPower Junior Games

LimbPower Junior Games 2024 – Saturday 6th July at Stoke Mandeville Stadium

The annual LimbPower Junior Games is open to all children and young people aged 4-18 with an amputation or limb difference. The first LimbPower Junior Games was in 2013 and it has become a favourite in our LimbPower Junior diary each year. We have lots of fun and are able to help so many children and young people.

The games are a unique opportunity for limb different children to “have a go” at sport in a fun, safe and supported environment with other children ‘like me’.

The children receive coaching from qualified and trained coaches from the National Governing Bodies of Sport who work with children with disabilities in several key sports.

The sports on offer at previous LimbPower Junior Games have included Athletics - Track and Field, Wheelchair Basketball, Cycling, Handcycling, Sitting Volleyball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Swimming, Zone Hockey, Golf, Football and Archery. We have also included challenges for the children such as climbing walls and mobile caving, always a hit and many of the children/young people surprise themselves and their parents.

Under 4’s:
For the under 4’s we organise an age-specific activity, giving families a chance to play together, meet each other and chat with other families. This is also an opportunity for you to see the older children taking part in activities and sports and chat with some of the LimbPower team. Come and see what your child might be doing as they grow up and make some new friends.

Siblings:
We welcome siblings of participants to come along to the LimbPower Junior Games and where possible they will be included in the activities. LimbPower Juniors know that the whole family are on this journey and we don’t anyone left out.

The benefits:

  • 1.These events are designed to build confidence, self-esteem and self-efficacy.
  • 2.Develop self-efficacy so children feel confident engaging in school PE and Community activities with non-disabled children.
  • 3.A chance to try lots of bitesize, different and adapted, activities and sports suitable for your child, either just for fun or leading into a recognized pathway.
  • 4.They are an opportunity for children to feel included and take part in sports in a fun and safe environment away from stares and negative comments, where the children can be themselves and have a go without the fear of being judged.
  • 5.An opportunity for children and parents to make friends and share experiences.
  • 6.A chance to meet healthcare professionals outside of the clinical setting.
