David’s journey has been one of resilience and determination. Born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, he faced challenges throughout his life. In 2008, he made the difficult decision to amputate his right leg due to joint complications. Despite setbacks, David embraced sports. Swimming alongside Paralympic champions, he became a national junior swimming champion. Post-amputation, wheelchair rugby helped him regain health. David’s advice? “Challenge the challenge.” Find solutions, stay active, and never limit yourself. And remember, even a kick-around can be exhilarating!
As a congenital amputee, I discovered my passion for sports at an early age. Attending the LimbPower Junior Games was pivotal—it connected me with other children like me and opened doors to various sports. The learn-to-run workshops were transformative, propelling me into triathlon. While emotional support was limited, I believe a mentoring program could bridge that gap. Now, at 22, I’m a former national para swimmer, proud of my achievements and the competitive spirit that drives me.
